Our Mission

To celebrate through works of fiction the inspiring ideas that shape a free society.

Who We Are, What We Offer

The foundation recognizes the unique power of storytelling to entertain, enlighten, and inspire audiences with the most important values that shape our lives, society, and culture. We support stories with high literary merit and themes that illustrate how freedom, individualism, capitalism, and limited government are the pre-conditions for a society in which human success, achievement, and happiness flourish.

We sponsor educational programs that bring liberty to life

We provide educators with important lessons on liberty for student reading programs, civics classes, and Constitution Day lessons. We show educators how they can fulfill their state standards with our materials. Students can earn extra-credit when they participate in our educational community activities. Parents and adult learners can also join in the fun!

We offer grants to community theatre companies

to produce our featured plays. We provide the play scripts, pay all or most of the licensing fees, and give grants to help with production and marketing costs. To spur discussion and further enhancement of the dramatic experience, we also provide materials about the plays, such as synopses, character sketches, and study questions that highlight the ideas and issues raised.

Students

Read thrilling stories and important nonfiction works that teach you lessons for a lifetime as they entertain you and inspire you to reach for the stars.

How We Were Founded

The Winged Victory Foundation was formed with a generous gift from the estate of a major fan of contemporary author and liberty-advocate Gen LaGreca, an award-winning, Amazon best-selling novelist. Our founding donor wanted to sponsor the study of Gen’s liberty-themed novels in schools and other organizations, as well as the performance of her plays in educational and community theatres, in order to give greater exposure to these deserving works and to make a spirited contribution to the epic struggle of our time between freedom and authoritarian control of human life. The Winged Victory Foundation features Gen’s novels and plays, and we also support the work of other writers, classical and modern, that contribute to our mission. We aim to discover new talent, as well.

A Word about our Namesake.

We are named after the Winged Victory of Samothrace, a Hellenistic statue from the second century BC. This eight-foot-tall marble resides in the Louvre Museum in Paris. The statue depicts Nike, the Greek goddess of victory, as she appears to be descending onto the bow of a ship, bringing good fortune to the voyage. This soaring sculpture expresses in stone what the Winged Victory Foundation inspires through our literary and theatrical works: the noble and uplifting in art and in life.
